Saving Stylista
by Heather Bachman

There is a time to spend and a time to save. While we are living in a time where even banks are filing bankruptcy, the Saving Stylista is here to show you how to save on the best clothes and still be in style.

1. Thrift Stores
Shoppers, Start your Engines! Thrift stores are filled with great stuff for less and many of them were created and managed by charities, allowing you to to help those in real need, which is always in style. Giving clothes and using the tax cut to purchase in the same location can allow you to give twice. There are even designer labels...think of it as an impromptu Rodeo Drive.

2. Trading Parties
Imagine collecting the stuff that is too big, too small or just not you anymore and give it to the people you love. Don't think of it as re-gifting, think of it as giving your former favorite clothes a second act and getting to possibly watch the play. Not to mention it gives you a reason to have a get together.

3. Bring a List and Be Realistic!
Picture it: you wander around, mesmerized by the amazing colors, textures and silhouettes and the fashionably dressed mannequins. You think you have to have it. This can lead to the syndrome known as Regret and Debt. If you bring a list of exactly what you need for the special occasion, event or work, and what you can afford, you’ll have a much better chance of staying within your budget, and save time!

4. Smart storage=Fashionable future
One of my favorite fashion magazines has this great section which lists items that were popular once upon a time and may make a very quick comeback. How do you know if something is coming back? Examine the small characteristics of the item and ask yourself if any of those could fit a future fashion trend. Don’t forget to store it well and safely.

5. Mailing lists are a girl's best friend
From Saks to J.C.Penney and beyond, every website has it, a little corner which allows you to enter your email and receive alerts to new designers, new stores and more importantly...sales! The Internet is an incredible treasure trove of deals if you look the right way. However, there is a possibility your email address may be sent to other companies you may not want to hear from. My advice: create a free email account just for those lists.

This can be a great time to get creative. There is no doubt that many Americans are struggling financially. Creativity is key and it can open really fashionable doors when given the chance.
