Psychotropic La-La Land Drugs or Optimum Brain Nutrition. Which is best for you?

By Robert H. Sorge, N.D. Ph.D. Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine

Psychotropic drugs are the most overly prescribed class of drugs in America today. They account for tens of billions of dollars of pharmaceutical sales each year.

What the drug medicine establishment doesn’t want you to know is that no human on the face of the entire earth has ever been deficient in a psychotropic drug but large segments of our population are deficient in essential nutrients.

Our brain cells, just like the cells of our body, require an ample and continuous supply of over one-hundred different nutrients that we know about and possibly thousands of intrinsic factors that we know little about. In spite of what you may have been told, it is impossible to obtain optimum nutrition required for high-level brain function or to prevent physical or mental diseases on the Standard American Diet (SAD).

Many of the substances added to food don’t contain cell regenerating factors but rather a form of plastic containing chemicals that interfere with proper brain and nerve function.

Ninety Five percent of patients lying on psychiatrists’ couches would be well advised to visit an alternative medicine doctor trained in nutritional, hormonal and metabolic evaluation. Most so-called mental problems, including depression, anxiety, attention disorders, mood swings, emotional upsets, learning disabilities and negative mental attitudes, are often signs of severe long term nutritional deficiencies.

The public needs to be aware of the fact that 50-cent terms, such as, “attention deficit disorder”, are not true diagnoses, but rather a medical scam, designed to sell psychotropic drugs. No honest practitioner would attempt to pass this term off as a medical diagnosis because it is not. It does not explain cause and effect. Unless we uncover the cause, the likelihood of instigating a correction is slim. This is a basic axiom of medicine that is thousands of years old. Why is it so blatantly ignored by modern day medicine?

It is not unusual for the drug establishment to make a quantum leap from the pseudo diagnosis of “attention deficit disorder”, to prescribing Rydlan, which stunts a child’s physical growth, impairs creativity and mental function and sets the child up for a lifetime of drug addiction. These facts have been well documented in the scientific literature. Why are we allowing them to make junkies out of our children and grandchildren?

No one ever gets better in la-la land because drugs only suppress the symptoms. Drugs never address the cause of the mental, emotional or spiritual problem. It is important to diligently seek out the cause.

What Is the Cause of Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Problems?

The brain needs nutrition and oxygen. The brain represents about 2% of the body’s mass, but requires as much as 36% of its oxygen and nutrition. The brain and central nervous systems are the body’s first systems to manifest the effects of nutritional deficiencies.

When the brain becomes deficient in oxygen, or any one of the hundred plus essential nutrients it requires, it begins to malfunction. The brain’s electronic mechanism begins to misfire and various behavioral symptoms manifest themselves in mood alteration, ability to focus, memory, attitude and behavior.

It is the mind that controls the body. The body is but slave to the mind. Long before physical symptoms appear, mental, emotional and behavioral symptoms will surface. In our form of medicine we believe every symptom, physical or mental, is an indication of a nutritional deficiency and every named medical condition is a long-term nutritional deficiency that was never properly addressed, or worse, drugged into la-la land.

Mental and emotional health is also highly impacted by thyroid function. According to our nation’s foremost thyroid expert, Broda Barns, M.D., hyperthyroidism is America’s most under-diagnosed disease. After 40 years of practice, Dr. Barns has concluded that “an under-performing thyroid must always be treated nutritionally and with natural bio identical thyroid restoration therapy, never with synthetic drugs”.

Drugs will always have their place but should remain our last option for most physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral problems. Every cell of your body requires specific nutrition. No two people have the exact nutritional needs. Unfortunately most orthodox medical doctors are not adequately trained in nutritional therapies.

Your alternative medicine or naturopathic doctor has been trained in the latest scientific breakthroughs in laboratory blood diagnostics for individual nutrition, hormonal and metabolic assessment purposes. For some people, nutrition testing of their individual biochemistry has transformed their lives.
